Local high school artists have work on display all across our area so maybe you will be lucky enough to see some beautiful pieces. Nine Reservoir High School students have work on display at the Artists on the Rise exhibit at the Montpelier Arts Center throughout the month of March. Artists with work on display are: Emily Fonseca, Ruiting Jia, Amanda O'Shaughnessy, Sandra Lopez Aguilar, Ashley Rothermel, Mariah Lodise, Anthony Payne, Julia Payne and Josh Clinton.

The Miller Branch Library in Ellicott City is where you can find an exhibit celebrating Youth Art Month. Work from Reservoir High School students Paola Sorto Quijano and Anny Zhu is on display there along with students from across Howard County.

Kristina Niederhauser, Abiola Akinwande, Amya Thomas, Jummy Adelaja, Karla Medina-Velazquez, Juli Hancock, Emily Fonseca, Ruiting Jia, Lyta Christian, Diego Castro, Annabelle Salkeld and Rebecca Li have work displayed at the Howard County Center for the Arts in Ellicott City for the spring art show titled Imagining Home: Creating Community.

Tessie Greene completed the National Gallery of Art High School Students Seminar Program which is offered every year for students interested in art history and museum education. Tessie gave an intriguing gallery talk and was honored for her work at a reception.

Hammond Middle School students are proving that they are among the best math students in the area. Several of them participated in the Math Counts National Competition Series where they engaged in contests among other sixth, seventh and eighth graders in the area. The competition series included four levels: school chapter, state and national. Within those four levels are four rounds: sprint, target, team and countdown. Dallin Christiansen, Daniel Fu, Richard Hu and Angela Voo won first place in the competition team round. Dallin and Richard also advanced to the countdown round. August Hao, Richard Hu, Angela Voo and Eulalia Voo and Jessica Zhou advanced to the state competition. Best of luck to these mathematicians.

Reservoir High School counselors are inviting students and parents to College Night on Wednesday, March 29, at 7 p.m. Experts from local colleges will discuss PSAT's, SAT's and ACT's, completing applications, the admissions process, financial aid and applying to military academies. Representatives from Stevenson University, Howard Community College, University of Maryland, McDaniel College, American University and UMBC will be there.

Are you a fan of the Shrek movies? How about Disney on Ice? If you said yes, then the performance of Shrek on Ice is for you. The Gardens Figure Skating Club of Maryland will present the annual ice show on Saturday, April 1 and Sunday, April 2 at 1 and 3:30 p.m.

The cast includes skaters of all skill levels from age 4 to adult, ranging from beginner to advanced national medalists. Many of the skaters are from our area and compete in the U.S. Figure Skating system including national level showcase, theater on ice, and synchronized skating competitions so it promises to be a wonderful experience.

Tickets will be on sale at the door for $12 for general admission with a limited number of special reserved seats available for $20.
