Emmanuel United youth to help the poor in the Bahamas with fundraiser

I love seeing our youth show the world that they have a lot of heart and compassion, don't you? The Youth Mission Team at Emmanuel United Methodist Church is working hard to be able to go to Bahamas, but instead of a vacation of snorkeling and lying by the pool, the 27 members of the team of high school students and adults will be working hard fixing up houses and building ramps for those in need.

The Bahamas, like many Caribbean countries, have a great tourist area, but beyond that is a very poor country in need of help. It is a great place to go so that the youth team can learn about another culture and to learn the value of helping.

They will be working with an organization called Team Effort. In order to raise funds for this trip, they will be holding a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper Tuesday. Feb. 21 at 5:30 p.m. They will have pancakes, sausage, spiced apples and drinks.

The cost is $6 for adults and $4 for children younger than 12. Those 5 and younger are free. For more information, email Donna Meoli at or call 301-725-5200. The church is at 10755 Scaggsville Road. I promise to keep you up to date on their efforts.
