The Howard County Master Gardeners will be holding a series of one-hour classes on vegetable gardening Saturday, Feb. 25.
At 10 a.m., Kent Phillips will demonstrate how to start vegetable transplants for lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower, bok choi, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, and squash using fluorescent lights.
At 11 a.m., Gloria Lambert will present ways to create a vegetable garden and how to care for it.
At noon, Jerry Kissel will describe the pests and diseases commonly found in spring gardens and how to minimize their impact while still being environmentally conscious.
The classes will be held at the University of Maryland Extension Office, 3300 North Ridge Road, Suite 240, in Ellicott City. For more information, call 410-313-2707.
The Mustang Flea Market will be held March 3 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This is a fundraiser sponsored by the Marriotts Ridge High School Music Foundation.
The flea market will be held in the school's cafeteria. Items for sale will include: furniture, baby items, electronics, collectibles, sporting goods, toys, tools, seasonal items and more.
A $1 donation is requested for admission to the flea market. This is a cash-only event; so bring your real money, not your plastic. Refreshments will also be available to purchase.

The agriculture marketing program of Howard County Economic Development Authority will conduct its annual Central Maryland Women in Agriculture Forum March 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Howard County Fairgrounds, in West Friendship.
Topics will include "On Farm Food Safety," "Device Apps and Digital Resources for Farmers and Direct Marketers," "Top 10 Ways to Avoid Getting a Real Job" and "Why Now is the Time for Women Entrepreneurs."
