Make sure to save the date as the St. Michael's Knights of Columbus and Ladies Auxiliary will be holding a basket bingo March 10 at the church. Doors open at 5 p.m. for refreshments, and bingo starts at 7 p.m.

Howard County Executive Ken Ulman has announced that the county's Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site opened Jan. 18 and will remain open through the 2012 tax season. The VITA site offers free tax assistance preparation and electronic filing for taxpayers who earned up to $49,000 in 2011.
The site is at the North Laurel Community Center, 9411 Whiskey Bottom Road, in Laurel, on Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Taxpayers can either call 410-313-0386 or go to http://www.howardcountymd.gov/VITA.htm to make an appointment and for a list of documents to bring.
Financial education classes have also been scheduled to coincide with the hours that the VITA site is open. These classes are open to the general public. Information about the classes is also on the web site above.
Congratulations go to Paul Churchyard, of Mount Airy, for his recent accomplishments. Paul was recently selected to be a member of the National Society of High School Scholars. The society recognizes top scholars for their academic excellence. Paul also attended Space Camp at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center, which is NASA's official Visitor Information Center for the Marshall Space Flight Center.
Paul was part of the Advanced Space Academy, which is designed for high school trainees who have an interest in science. Paul trained for a week with a team that flew a simulated Space Shuttle mission to the International Space Station.
The crew participated in experiments and a space walk. The Huntsville, Alabama Space Camp uses astronaut training techniques and actual simulators used by NASA.
