Doris Jacober had a very special day on Feb. 5.
A long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church, Jacober celebrated her 100th birthday! She is now a resident at Bright View Assisted Living in Catonsville after living in Elkridge for many years.
On Feb. 9, over 120 family members and friends celebrated Jacoberās milestone birthday at the Grace Family Life Center. Reportedly, everyone had a great time even though the birthday girl could not figure out what all the fuss was about.
Happy Birthday Miss Doris, your Elkridge friends wish you another year of good health and happiness.
Congratulations to Joe Slavotinek on his retirement from the Howard County Department of Public Works. He is a life-long Elkridge resident who has been a well-known and loved part of the Elkridge Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He is a skilled grill master, legendary potato salad maker, jack-of-all trades and loving Pop-Pop to his five grandchildren, Slavotinek and his wife, Sherrie moved to the Eastern Shore to pursue a more laid-back lifestyle. Enjoy your retirement.

Donāt forget to mark your calendar for the March 5 Shrove Tuesday Pancake Dinner at Melville Chapel United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The church is at 5660 Furnace Ave. Come enjoy pancakes, locally sourced sausage, fruit, milk, juice and coffee with your friends and neighbors. The dinner starts at 5 p.m. and wraps up at 7 p.m. A free-will offering will be available for contributions.
The Grace Early Learning Center is hosting a Book Fair on Saturday, March 9 from 9 a.m until 1 p.m. at the corner of Landing and Montgomery roads. All of the proceeds will be directed to fund the programs at the center. What a great opportunity to get some wonderful books for the little people in your life.

Got plans for St. Patrickās Day? The Elkridge Furnace Inn is hosting two outstanding events that pair incredible Irish food, drinks and dance. On Sunday, March 17, from 12 to 3 p.m., an Irish four-course tea and dance program by the Teelin Irish Dance Company will be offered. The cost for this special event is $45 per person.
At 4 until 7 p.m. on March 17, a program of Irish dancing and Irish cuisine featuring be offered. The cost is a menu of Dublin coddle, Gaelic steak, brown sugar braised stewed Guinness blond chicken, braised cabbage, parsley spring potatoes, spring vegetable medley, soda bread with Irish butter and Irish whiskey trifle will be offered.
Guinness beer and Irish whiskey will be available. As always, you must pre-pay and pre-register for these events.
