The Department of Planning and Zoning hosts workshops for the next two months on the Bicycle Master Plan.

Biking is great for the environment and for healthy exercise. My view is that riders need at least a two-foot shoulder to ride on. It isn't very safe to be out on narrow, hilly, winding western Howard County lanes.

If you want to contribute, attend one or more of the workshops. There will be one Sept. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Miller Branch Library. Others are in October and November. Go to http://www.howardcountymd.gov/News090512.htm To get more details.

Dona DeZube notes that not all kids in 21029 continue to attend schools in our Zip Code. Some of our children who attended Pointers Run Elementary moved on to Lime Kiln Middle School and are now attending Reservoir High. They want you to know about the Reservoir Homecoming Tailgate Carnival on Sept. 29 from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the school on Route 216.

The carnival will offer game booths, an inflatable obstacle course, dunk tank, basketball free throw, baseball speed pitch, corn hole, an arts and crafts table and face painting along with snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn, dessert waffles and other tasty treats.

The Reservoir Homecoming game follows the carnival at 7 p.m. Admission to the football game is $5.
