Being able to get outside with family and friends on a summer evening is a cherished traditional treat.
Come to the River Hill Shopping Center on Friday, July 26, from 6 to 8 p.m., to enjoy the sounds of Naked Blue, a folk rock group. Center merchants offer plenty of food and beverage options or you might bring a picnic supper. The free summer concerts provide opportunities to meet with friends and neighbors.
Pan Fried Steel will bring the playful sound of steel drums to the village center on Aug. 2. All are welcome.
Our children seem to grow up far more quickly than we anticipate. Perhaps because we may not see them every day, grandchildren seem to grow up even faster. My eldest granddaughter Hailey Sanford will be 12 on Sunday, July 28. No longer a little girl, she's quite the young lady with a love of travel, reading and playing piano.
Happy birthday, Hailey. Have a great year.
Five years ago, the Long family moved into the house next to mine. Robb was pastor of the Triadelphia Seventh-day Adventist Church on Brighton Dam Road. Robb, Chris, Abby and Sara were good neighbors and always a delight to be around. Sadly, they are leaving Clarksville.
Robb was recently called to become an evangelist in the St. Louis area. He will be engaged in public speaking, individual Bible studies and training church members to share the gospel. These are all areas in which the Lord has richly blessed the Longs with talent.
No doubt, they will be a great blessing to those in the St. Louis area. The first evangelistic series in St. Louis is scheduled from Aug. 21 through October so they will be leaving very soon.
I will miss them all, but especially my 13-year-old construction buddy, Sara. She worked tirelessly in the Nicaraguan sun throughout this past Christmas season.
Triadelphia members wish the Longs all the best as they find a new home, new schools, a new church and adjust to new surroundings.
While a search is made for a new Triadelphia pastor, Head Elder Gaspar Colon, a man with a wealth of ministerial experience, will provide leadership to the congregation.
Chris Long made a special request of the church members, "Please bring one flattened packing box along with a sealed note of encouragement."
A note will be placed in the bottom of each box as they pack. This will give them good reason to unpack quickly in Missouri.
What a neat idea. If you are moving or know someone who is moving, try it.
I still have packed boxes from my late parents home packed in 1989. A little incentive might help.
