Most Clarksville area residents have plenty of room for growing vegetables, but some may need a little help and encouragement to get started. On Saturday, Feb. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the University of Maryland Extension—Howard County Master Gardeners will hold a series of one-hour vegetable gardening classes with breakouts for questions after each session at the Extension office in Ellicott City.
At 10 a.m., Kent Phillips will demonstrate how to start vegetable transplants and give lots of advice on what works best so you and your plants will be ready when it's time to plant outdoors.
At 11 a.m., Gloria Lambert will teach a "Vegetable Gardening for Beginners" class with advice for care of your garden through the year.
At noon, Jerry Kissel will teach a class on "Integrated Pest Management" for spring vegetable gardens. One of the advantages of growing your own veggies is that these methods are friendly to the environment and your body in addition to offering all the nutrients that come to you fresh from the garden.
