Cross country

The Howard County Junior Striders cross country program registration is available at http://www.striders.net or http://www.bullseyerunning.com. Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays for eight weeks at Centennial High School beginning Aug. 30. Beginners and experienced runners from first through eighth grade are welcome.

The Striders' cross county race scheduled for July 22 at Reservoir High was postponed due to the weather conditions. It has been rescheduled for Thursday, Aug. 4. The other two races in the series are July 29 at Hammond High and Aug. 12 at Oakland Mills. The races begin at 6:30 p.m. Adults and kids are welcome. Go to http://www.striders.net.

Soccer

The Oakland Mills Boosters is hosting a summer soocer camp at Oakland Mills High School Aug. 1-5. Call 443-801-9881.

The Spitfire Field Hockey Club holds tryouts for its U-19 U.S. Field Hockey National Festival team Aug. 7 from 9 a.m.- noon at Western Regional Park. Registration is open for ages 5-17 for the HCYP girls fastpitch fall season. This is an instructional program for 8-U, 10-U and 12-U players and includes a competitive older league primarily for high school playres not playing year-round but looking towards spring tryouts. Football

In addition, the organization seeks qualified, committed individuals to coach, especially at the Pit Bull (ages 5-6) and 14-U levels. High school football officials and timers are needed in the Washington Metropolitan Area. Anyone who is 18 prior to Sept. 1, 2011 is eligible. No officiating experience is required. The Sykesville travel program is looking for players for the spring season. Sykesville Baseball has one of the largest travel programs in central Maryland with 9-U, 10-U, 11-U, 12-U, 13-U, 14-U and High School eligible divisions (ages 15-19) teams.
