The SAC U-10 select boys team won its age bracket at the SAC Select Tournament Sept. 15. The team defeated the Arsenal Gunners, 1-0, in the semifinals and FC Dynamo, 2-1, in double overtime for the championship.

Team members are Liron Karpati, Jack McGowan, Luke Marlow, Omar Niazi, Shane O'Brien, Donivan Okolita, Adam Orcutt, Andrew Orlosky, Mike Orlosky, Ian Swartz and Brian Tarantino. The team's current record is 5-1.

The SAC U-11B Premier II played a new Thunder CSKA team last weekend. Ryan Saunderson's goal put SAC ahead, 1-0, at the half. He was assisted by Brennan Reamer. SAC keeper Nicolas Lara came up with two good saves and Justin Harris broke up a breakway chance, also in the first half.

SAC controlled possession in the second half and received goals by Reamer (assisted by Alex Smedley) and Harris (assisted by Chase King). Aaron Kaplan showed off his moves throughout much of the second half beating multiple defenders and streaking down the sideline. SAC's midfield and fullbacks contributed to the shutout with outstanding play from Lyle Knepprath, William Vasilios, Gavin Yancey, Chima Okoro and Justin Harris. Defender Andrew Ji also played well.

In a hard-fought game, SAC U-9 White lost to SAC U-9 Blue, 4-2, with Remi Rollins scoring from the right back by dribbling the ball up the wing before cutting inside and drilling a shot into the far side of the goal.

Carmella D'Antuono was instrumental in setting up the second goal for SAC White when she moved the ball upfield while fighting off multiple defenders. The ball made its way to Samantha Smedley who played a through ball to Alayna Lynchard, who drilled a shot off the far post and Micaela Blackburn put herself in a great position to collect the rebound and put it in the back of the net.

Morgan Pinckney, Morgan Choe and Jordyn Choe controlled the midfield for much of the game through their tireless effort and clever link-up play. While Caroline Duffy, Jillian Ingram and Ally Clearfield presented a difficult challenge for the opposing attack with their crunching tackles and defensive prowess.

Thunder Soccer Club

Thunder Soccer Club's Atletico won the U-15B championship at the White Water Cup Classic in Wilkes-Barre, Penn., Labor Day weekend.

In the three-game series, TSC Atletico tied its first game, 0-0, and then scored seven goals in the final two tournament games, defeating its Pennsylvania opponents, 5-0 and 2-0.

Atletico families spent the second day of this unique tournament white-water rafting on the Lehigh River. Atletico will represent Thunder in the Baltimore Beltway Soccer League this fall.

Columbia Soccer Club

The CSC Storm Runners (U-16 girls) kicked off their fall Baltimore Beltway Soccer League season with a dominating 5-0 victory over the Perry Hall/White Marsh Tornadoes Sept. 18. After a hard-fought, scoreless first half that saw many Storm Runner chances go wide or into the arms of the Tornadoes' goalie, the second half saw the offense of the home team kick into high gear as a tiring Tornado defense could not withstand the pressure.

The scoring started on a brilliant individual effort from midfielder Jenny Haynes who stole the ball from her mark, deftly threaded her way through two defenders and then rocketed a shot by the goalie from the top of the box into the upper right corner of the goal.

Her effort not only gave the Storm Runners the lead, but seemed to open the offensive floodgates for the team. Newcomer Natalie Chin netted the next two from her left wing position with nice assists from center forward Christina Kochanski on the first and midfielder Lilly Hermina on the second.

Right wing Makenzie Rynn notched the fourth goal after a scramble in front of the net and the final goal was recorded by Kate Harkelroad, another Storm Runner newcomer, who took a perfectly played touch pass from Kochanski and drove the ball past the Tornadoes keeper from the 6-yard box.

The Storm Runners defense was solid throughout the match, allowing no real threats to get to goalkeeper Carley Noppinger.

Central defenders Maddie Jones and Becca Riley and outside defenders Tory LaFemina, Erica Noppinger and Kennedy Citro kept the Tornadoes at bay and transitioned the ball from defense to offense with precise passing and timely and dangerous runs.
