Girls soccer: Record-setting performance powers Chapelgate to victory

Lydia Frierson set a school record and led Chapelgate to its eight straight win, 8-0, over Mt. Carmel on Wednesday. Frierson scored four goals and had two assists and has now scored 34 goals this season.

Frierson broke a record set by Mandy Pena-Ariet, in 2005. Pena-Ariet, who is the sister of coach Christen Gjeldum, had 33 goals in her high school career.

Kristin Thomas had four goals and two assists in the win. Jen Yahiro had two assists as did Molly Carlson. Andelyn Smith had five saves in goal and Casey Bigelow had one save.

Chapelgate is 6-0 in the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland C Conference. The Yellowjackets have outscored their last eight opponents, 55-7. The team has three games left before the IAAM playoffs begin next week.
