Field hockey: Glenelg Country falls to Mount de Sales

Mount de Sales 3, Glenelg Country 1

Left wing Julianna Shearer scored twice just a few minutes a part in the second to lift visiting Mount de Sales past Glenelg Country School, 3-1, on Monday in an Independent Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference game.

Allie Pickens gave Glenelg Country the first goal of the game, but Kayley Jones tied the score midway through the half.

Glenelg Country lost at Mount de Sales, 1-0, in overtime two weeks ago.

Howard 4, Centennial 1

Katja Randazzo had a hand in every Howard goal as the Lions pulled away from Centennial in the second half to win, 4-1.

Long Reach 2, Reservoir 1

After Reservoir scored midway through the first half, Long Reach coach Rashmi Bhanot called a time out. "We tied the game about a minute later," she said.

The Lightning kept its momentum up in the second half. "My girls played with intensity, and they believed they were gong to walk off that field with another win — and they did," Bhanot said.

Long Reach defeated Reservoir in the Paint Branch tournament earlier in the season.

Mt. Hebron 9, Wilde Lake 0

Emily Bishop had four goals and Tianna Wallpher had a goal and four assists as Mt. Hebron defeated Wilde Lake.

Glenelg 16, Hammond 0

A half of a field hockey game is 30 minutes, but the time went slowly for Hammond.

"It was a very long first half, being outscored, 12-0," said Hammond coach Terry Smith. "During the second half our girls played much better."

"Hammond played hard and played to the end," said Glenelg coach Ginger Kincaid, whose team is top-ranked in the Baltimore area. None of the Gladiators played more than a half or scored more than three goals.
