The Glenelg Country School Dragons hosted South River, a top-ranked Anne Arundel County team Monday afaternoon.
South River got off to a 2-0 lead by halftime but the host Dragons played a hard-fought game and created scoring opportunities. Although South River out-shot Glenelg Country, 23-8, the Dragons held an 8-4 advantage in offensive penalty corners.
Junior forward Ellie Mamula scored the Dragons' only goal off an assist from junior midfielder Nicole Rieu. Senior Allie Pickens was key to the team's offensive spark inside the attacking 25.
"We made some adjustments," said Glenelg Country coach Jessica McAdams. "I bumped Allie to the front three and bumped Nicole and Amy Keith higher at midfield and it sparked more offensive transitions. I was very happy as were the girls. It was a great game."
Glenelg Country keeper Sarah Bates had another stellar game making 17 saves.
