Highland/Fulton: Reservoir High students are excelling outside the classroom

The athletic teams at Reservoir High School have been accomplishing some great things so far this year. Congrats to coach Paul Linkins and the boys varsity soccer team and on winning their first county championship in school history. The team the defeated Broadneck, 1-0, to earn the District V title, competed for by the best teams in Howard and Anne Arundel counties.

Then, there's the first-place finish for the season by the boys junior varsity soccer team. Congratulations to the team and to coach Reg Hahne.

The accomplishments by the students and coaches are not limited to athletics. The Reservoir High Speech and Debate Club had an outstanding performance at the Catonsville Invitational. A record 10 Gators competed and won six medals.

In Children's Literature, Lily Hong won a silver medal. In the Lincoln-Douglass Debate, Brian Shouse won the gold and Nikhil Khanna took second. Then, in Novice Lincoln-Douglass, Brennan Guthrie took first. Puja Trivedi won the gold medal in Speaker and in Novice Policy Debate and Sophie Bell came in second in that category. Zachary Blough won two matches in Novice Lincoln-Douglass.

Jake Smith and Avait Ramanan also won two matches against tough competition in Policy Debate. Haley Sweeton competed for the first time in Oral Interpretation of Literature and did very well in Children's Literature.
