We are all more than the sum of our sexual experiences. Our worth as persons goes far beyond what we have or have not done sexually.
I have followed a grassroots group called Mass Resistance, via email, since 2003 when Massachusetts redefined marriage. As a PTA mom, I wondered about the impact to public schools.
In 2006 in Massachusetts, a federal Civil Rights lawsuit was filed to require public schools to notify parents and allow them to opt-out their elementary-school children when homosexual-related subjects were taught. The federal judges dismissed the case.
The judges ruled that because same-sex marriage is legal in Massachusetts, the school actually had a duty to normalize homosexual relationships to children, and that schools have no obligation to notify parents or let them opt out their children.
I love our community public schools and have been inspired by the herculean efforts of many administrators, teachers, parents, and BOE/DOE members to better our public schools, especially for disadvantaged children who need excellence in public schools the most.
Will redefining marriage in Maryland result in pressure on the public schools and diminish the current support for our community public schools?
