Wrestling: Weekend tournament roundup

Wilde Lake finished 4-4 at the inaugural Battlin' Baron Duals at Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School on Friday and Saturday to finish sixth out of nine teams. Wilde Lake's Alex Polonsky finished the tournament undefeated at 113 pounds, and Jordan Trinh (120) knocked off Tuscarora's Xavier Spruill, a 2010 state finalist, 6-4.

Oakland Mills finished 7-0 at the District V Duals at Broadneck over the weekend, while Atholton was 4-3. The Raiders defeated Overlea, Northeast (Anne Arundel), Glen Burnie and Patapsco in the tournament and lost to Severna Park, Broadneck and Chesapeake. Howard and Long Reach also participated in the tournament, but their results were not reported.

Marriotts Ridge earned a statement win over Boys Latin, 48-27, on the first day of the Loch Raven Duals on Friday, but the Lakers won the rest of their matches to win the tournament, while Marriotts Ridge finished 3-3.

Hammond crowned two champions at the Northern Patriot Classic on Saturday: undefeated senior Jonathan Goodwin (145) and junior Humphrey Anuh (195). Both wrestlers pinned their way to the finals where they each earned shut outs. Also placing for the Golden Bears were junior Bryan Overton (160) with a third place finish and sophomore Evan Nuss (113), who took sixth.

On Saturday, Reservoir renewed its rivalry with Stephen Decatur, losing by the score of 52-15. Mason Kilcarr and Michael Sullivan scored the Gators' only pins, while the Seahawks scored four pins, a tech fall and a win by forfeit.

Last Thursday, Centennial had one of its more competitive dual meets of the year, but still fell, 45-28, to Southern of Anne Arundel. The Eagles fell into an early 36-0 canyon in a six-match stretch that included four forfeits and two pins, but rallied with five straight wins to make the score 36-22. Southern then clinched the win by taking two of the last three matches.
