Around the league

At Oakland Mills, Glenelg defeated visiting LaPlata, 35-27, on back-to-back pins by Austin Pagnotta (132) and Ryan Carter (138).

After LaPlata heavyweight Jon Boarman, a 2011 state finalist, battled Glenelg junior Sean Twigg to a 4-3 decision, Glenelg held a slim 17-15 lead. But consecutive pins by LaPlata's Marty Margolis (113) and John Papinacolas (120) put the Warriors ahead, 27-20, with only three bouts remaining. Mike Budock's slim 3-2 decision at 126 then set the stage for Pagnotta and Carter's match clinching pins. Tyler Asher (182) and Glenn Lucas (195) also recorded pins for the Gladiators.

Glenelg won the 1A/2A state dual meet title last year while LaPlata won the 3A/4A championship. Last Dec. 18, Glenelg defeated LaPlata, 30-29.
