Howard County rec department is registering for the Spring Flag Football League for boys and girls ages 5-14. Games are 5-on-5 and 50 minutes long. Practices are one hour, one day per week, between 5 and 8 p.m. starting April 1. Practice locations depend on team assignment. Games are played on Sundays at Hollifield Elementary beginning April 14. The Maryland Youth Football Full-Contact Camp will be held at Good Counsel High School June 18-22 (Monday-Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.; Friday, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.). The camp is for players ages 7-14. Cost: $350 (15 percent discount for organizations that bring five or more participants). Participants will receive camp evaluations and free online camp highlight tape among other things. The Howard County Terps Youth Football and Cheer program is seeking experienced and dedicated coaches of all ages for the fall season. Individuals must have the time and desire to develop student athletes by teaching football knowledge and strategy, teamwork, respect and perseverance to achieve success. The Glen Mar Golf Classic, set for May 7, at the Timbers of Troy Golf Course, in Elkridge, is hosted by Glen Mar United Methodist Church and will benefit Grassroots, Howard County's 24-hour crisis intervention center which shelters individuals and families who are homeless.
The tournament includes a continental breakfast, silent auction and luncheon. In addition to trophies for the three foursomes having the lowest scores, prizes will be awarded for longest drive and closest to the pin. There will also be a putting contest, an opportunity to "Use the Pro" on a par 5, and "Hit the Circle" on a par 3.
The format is captain's choice. Registration and breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at 8:30. Entry fee: $125 (per player); $500 (foursome). Non-golfers may attend at $25 per person to join the luncheon and participate in the silent auction.
Sponsorships are available from $2,500 (corporate level) to $250 (signage on one of the 18 holes). All proceeds from tournament sponsorships, fees and the silent auction will support operations at Grassroots.
