Girls basketball: Benzing, Pino pace Centennial in victory over Chesapeake-AA

Centennial started the week on a positive note, defeating Chesapeake-AA, 47-41, in a non-conference game Monday afternoon.

For the Eagles, Rachel Benzing included three 3-pointers among her team-high 18 points. Evana Pino (13 points) was also in double figures for Centennial, which is now 6-9 overall.

Chesapeake was led by Brianna Zajac (18 points) and Madison Troisi (12). The Cougars fell to 1-11.

Although Centennial led the whole way, Chesapeake did a good job of being resiliant and staying close, said Centennial coach Bobby Macheel.

"We finished out a close game and we've had a little bit of trouble with that this season," Macheel said.
