On May 25 at the University of Maryland, Reservoir's Biyik Akinshemoyin became only the second boys singles player ever from Howard County to win a state title, joining Wilde Lake's David Nguyen (2006).

Akinshemoyin, a senior who will play for UMBC next season, defeated Wootton's Mateo Cevallos in the state championship, 6-2, 6-1, avenging a loss from 2012 in the state championship when Akinshemoyin had to retire due to heat-related cramping.

Akinshemoyin was named the Howard County Player of the Year for the third straight year for his efforts, and recently took 30 seconds (or more) to talk to us about life on and off the court.
