False alarm leads police to converge on Columbia home

The sight of police converging Sunday morning on a home in Wilde Lake turned out to be a false alarm, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Police were called at about 11 a.m. on Aug. 28 to the 10400 block of Faulkner Ridge Circle after a neighbor reported hearing a domestic dispute and the sound of what might have been gunshots, according to police department spokeswoman Elizabeth Schroen.

Officers secured the area, evacuated some nearby residents and informed other nearby residents about the situation by phone, Schroen said. But when they tried to make contact with those inside the home, there was no response.

They went inside and found the home to be empty, Schroen said.

"The initial information reported by a neighbor was not accurate," she said. "The residents had not been in the home at all that day."
