Sobriety checkpoint in Ellicott City nets seven arrests

Seven people were arrested at a sobriety checkpoint set up Dec. 3 in Ellicott City — though only one person was actually charged with driving under the influence of alcohol.

Howard County police ran the checkpoint from Saturday into the early morning of Sunday, Dec. 4, at the intersection of Route 40 westbound and Governors Run.

Of the 647 vehicles that passed through, one driver was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, two people were charged with possessing marijuana, three people were charged with driving on a suspended license and one person was charged with driving without a license, according to police.
