Route 1 sidewalk construction to begin in Elkridge

A construction project to install sidewalks along Route 1 in Elkridge is scheduled to begin next week, the county Department of Public Works announced Monday, Aug. 15.

Construction is scheduled to begin on or about Monday, Aug. 22, and will include a new sidewalk, pedestrian ramps, pedestrian-accessible signals and roadway striping southbound Route 1 from Ducketts Lane to Troy Hill Drive, and at the intersection of northbound Route 1 and Meadowridge Road.

Weather permitting, the construction is expected to be completed by late September.

Temporary lane shifts and closures can be expected from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays during construction. Signs will be posted to alert motorists of the construction, and flagging operations will be put in place to direct traffic as needed.

In the statement, County Executive Ken Ulman said the sidewalk construction would be the first of many pedestrian enhancements along the Route 1 corridor.

"As Route 1 continues to experience more activity and development, we are committed to improving pedestrian safety and making the community walkable with the installation of pathways and sidewalks," Ulman said.
