Columbia man killed in Elkridge motorcycle crash

A Columbia man was killed Saturday, Oct. 1, after his motorcycle crashed into a parked tractor-trailer in Elkridge.

The man has been identified as Juan Carlos Calderon Mejia, 30, of the 9600 block of Whiteacre Road, according to the Howard County Police Department.

Police said Mejia, who did not have a motorcycle license, was not wearing a helmet and that they believe speed contributed to the crash.

Mejia was riding a 2001 Kawasaki Ninja east on Brookdale Drive at about 12:45 p.m., police said, when he lost control and hit the rear of the tractor-trailer, which was parked on the right side of the road.

He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he died.
