The man was a resident at Lighthouse Senior Living in the 3100 block of North Ridge Road, said Dr. Peter L. Beilenson, the county health officer, in a statement.

"There do not appear to be any other cases among residents at this time," Beilenson said.

The county Health Department and the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene are working with the facility to make sure residents are safe, he said.

Legionnaires' disease is caused by natural bacteria that grow well in warm water and infect people who breath in contaminated mist or vapor, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It cannot be spread from person to person.
