Man, woman indicted in Oakland Mills shooting

A man and a woman accused in a nonfatal shooting in Oakland Mills in January were indicted Feb. 15 by a Howard County Grand Jury.

Eric Brandon Miller, 25, of the 1300 block of Whitman Drive in Glen Burnie, and Zehra Senel Oztas, 24, of the 46600 block of Yorktown Road in Lexington Park, are each facing charges of armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, first-degree assault and use of a handgun for a felony or violent crime, according to documents from the Howard County State's Attorney's Office.

They are accused of being involved in a shooting that wounded Marcus Lee, a 20-year-old Columbia man.

Police were called at about 8:30 p.m. on Jan. 11 to Sam's Mart in the 5800 block of Stevens Forest Road. Lee told officers he was shot on Stevens Forest Road near Whiteacre Road; he then ran to a nearby convenience store for help, according to Sherry Llewellyn, spokeswoman for the Howard County Police Department.

Detectives spoke to people with information about the shooting and learned that it had occurred in a vehicle during a drug deal, Llewellyn said. Police believe Lee was selling "a large quantity of marijuana" to the people in the vehicle, she said. After being shot, Lee ran to the convenience store; the vehicle drove away.

Lee was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore and released four days later.

Miller and Oztas are being held at the Howard County Detention Center in Jessup on $75,000 and $85,000 bonds, respectively, according to online court records.
