The crash occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 29. Ellis was driving a Hyundai Sonata east in the 10400 block of Little Patuxent Parkway when the car hit a tree, police said.

An investigation found that Ellis was driving too fast on wet roads and that he was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
