A Columbia man has died several days after the vehicle he was driving crashed into a tree, according to the Howard County police.
James Dennis Ellis Jr., 72, was pronounced dead Thursday, Nov. 3 at the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
The crash occurred at about 9:50 p.m. on Oct. 29. Ellis was driving a Hyundai Sonata east in the 10400 block of Little Patuxent Parkway when the car hit a tree, police said.
An investigation found that Ellis was driving too fast on wet roads and that he was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
His death is the 10th fatal crash in Howard County in 2011 and the seventh death in which the victim was not wearing a seat belt, according to police spokeswoman Elizabeth Schroen.
