Man charged with breaking into Ellicott City church, preschool

Howard County police are investigating whether an Ellicott City man charged in three burglaries in November was also involved in burglaries at other area churches in the past couple of months.

Craig Nathaniel Webster, 46, of the 3200 block of Corporate Court, is facing two counts of second-degree burglary, two counts of theft and one count attempted credit card misuse, police spokeswoman Elizabeth Schroen said.

He is being held at the Howard County Detention Center in Jessup on $125,000 bail.

Webster is accused in burglaries at Bethel Korean Presbyterian Church in Ellicott City on Nov. 11 and at La Petite Academy on Nov. 12 and Nov. 23. Detectives are investigating whether he's connected with burglaries at four other religious institutions since Oct. 10.

Police arrested Webster after he tried to use a credit card stolen from La Petite at a nearby drug store, police said.

A search of his home produced a digital camera taken from La Petite, police said, and investigators are looking into whether other property found there can be connected to other burglary cases.

Webster has a preliminary court hearing scheduled for Dec. 22. He is also due in Howard County District Court on Jan. 18 to face a charge of motor vehicle theft, according to online court records.
