Books-A-Million will take over Columbia Borders

Books-A-Million will soon take over the lease of the Borders in Columbia Crossing, according to an agreement between the two book franchises approved in bankruptcy court Monday, Aug. 29.

Borders is liquidating all of its 399 stores nationwide. In bankruptcy court proceedings on Aug. 29, the company received approval to transfer 14 store leases, including the one for Columbia Crossing, to Books-A-Million, a chain that operates 231 stores across the country.

The base price for the Columbia store lease is $45,394, according to bankruptcy court filings.

Last month Books-A-Million submitted a bid to buy 30 Borders stores, but the deal fell through when the parties could not agree on terms.

The Columbia Borders is still open. No specific closing dates have been set for the stores, but all were expected to be closed by next month.
