Thirty people working at a commercial trucking facility Wednesday, July 13, in Elkridge escaped a two-alarm fire unscathed, according to the Howard County Department of Fire & Rescue Services.
With the assistance of Baltimore and Anne Arundel county fire departments, and "aggressive fire attack operations," the fire was subdued in 45 minutes, according to Battalion Chief Eric D. Proctor. It took Howard County firefighters four minutes to respond to a 911 call placed at 10:15 p.m., Proctor said.
The blaze caused an estimated $1 million in damages to the headquarters of Central Transport Inc., a trucking company located at 7471 Washington Boulevard, department spokeswoman Jackie Cutler said. The fire started in a facility trailer and spread to the main building before it was extinguished.
Investigators are still determining the cause.
