Larry Twele, director of economic development for Carroll County since 2004, will leave his post in county government effective July 8.
County officials said Tuesday that Twele will join the Howard County Economic Development Authority as its executive vice-president.
Twele will assume his new post in Howard County on July 11, county officials said.
During his tenure in Carroll County, Twele has worked to bring manufacturing jobs to the county, and has also pressed tourism and office employment growth.
In April, Twele was among county officials touting the announcement of the expansion of Knorr Brake, Inc., a company growing its existing business to a new site at the Westminster Technology Park. Last year, Twele was a vocal advocate for the Liberty Exchange mixed-use development in Eldersburg, which is under way off Liberty Road.
He has served on the Board of Directors of the Warfield Development Corporation, the private-public partnership developing the former Springfield Hospital site in Sykesville.
He was also recently named as vice president of Maryland Economic Development Association.
In a statement, Twele said that while in Carrolll, "We’ve established some very solid attraction and retention programs ... that will continue on through the hard work of a very professional and capable staff."
Prior to joining Carroll County in 2004, Twele had worked with the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development since 1998, initially as director of the regional economic development office and later as its senior business development specialist for the Greater Baltimore region.
