Woodbine barn fire causes estimated $1 million in damage

Howard County firefighters worked from early morning into the evening on Tuesday, Dec. 13, after a barn fire broke out in Woodbine.

A passerby spotted the fire at about 3:30 a.m. on the 15700 block of Frederick Road, according to Jackie Cutler, spokeswoman for the Howard County Department of Fire and Rescue Services.

Firefighters arrived to see a 50 foot by 100 foot barn fully engulfed in flames. With walls collapsing, and concerns over the structural integrity of the building, they battled the blaze from outside, Cutler said.

More than 30 firefighters were on the scene at one point, and some remained there quelling the flames into Tuesday evening, she said.

The barn was filled with equipment, hay and straw, she said. The amount of damage was estimated at $1 million.
