Nick Collins and Todd Collins share a great deal — last names, for one, even though they are not related.
They've also known each other since they were in first grade at Manchester Elementary, and also attended North Carroll middle and high schools togather.
They are both are Carroll County natives, are both 33 years old, are both married and each have a son.
The've also shared a passion throughout their lives — for skating and snowboarding.
So when the two friends decided to go into business together, they tapped into their friendship and common interests — and the result is Kliq Board Shop, scheduled to open Saturday, Jan. 28, at 85 W. Main St., in downtown Westminster.
Both have business backgrounds — Nick has several online businesses and owned Stereotype Boardshop in Westminster until he sold it in 2007, and Todd currently owns Certified Cars Inc. in Glen Burnie.
The two tout Kliq Board Shop as a skater/snowboarder-owned and operated business.
Some of the brands Kliq carries include Kliq Original Gear, Deathwish, Baker, Element, Fallen Shoes, Independent Trucks and Spit Fire Wheels.
"We are dedicated to carrying the core brands and representing our community in the way a local board shop should," said Nick, who lives in Manchester.
Todd, a resident of Hampstead, adds, "We plan on being a mainstay in the industry and local community for years to come."
Both plan to be active with the Westminster and Hampstead skate parks, assisting with maintenance and ongoing care, as well as event planning. Shop staff includes Jason Shiller and Tim Aronhalt. Anthony Polhaus will handle Internet and shop sales.
Kliq Board Shop was scheduled to open Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. The shop's winter hours are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
