McGrath honored for service with National Kidney Foundation

The National Kidney Foundation of Maryland recently honored Hampstead resident and volunteer committee member Mabel McGrath as the recipient of its Greater Baltimore Community and Patient Services All-Star Award.

The award was presented at the foundation's annual Volunteer Awards Reception at the Baltimore Museum of Industry.

"Our volunteers truly are the lifeline of this lifesaving organization," said Cassie Shafer, CEO of the local chapter of the National Kidney Foundation.

The award noted that McGrath, a long-time board member, "is one of the true rocks we lean on to support the work of our Programs and Advocacy Office."

Officials said that McGrath, who is bi-lingual, has been a key member of the team of volunteers who staff the annual Mayor's Latino Health Fair. This past March, she drove from Carroll County to help with the Kidney Health Risk Assessment at the B'More Healthy Expo in Baltimore.
