WESTMINSTER — The United Way of Central Maryland convened a community "Day of Action" on Oct. 20, tapping nearly 400 volunteers at locations across the region to complete more than 40 projects on behalf of nonprofits.
In Carroll County, members of Carroll County Government took part in a morning painting session at the Family and Children's Services/West End Place center in Westminster, and students and faculty at McDaniel College hosted a Club Spirit Day at Boys and Girls Club of Westminster.
The event at the Boys and Girls Club, on Union Street, was an extension of an existing partnership between the club and McDaniel.
Over the past few years, McDaniel students have served as mentors, academic tutors and program facilitators at the club.
McDaniel students play a role in helping club members explore their potential by providing an example of what it means to be ready for college. In addition to providing the club with mentors, the partnership affords club members access to the college campus including the writing lab, library and cultural activities and sporting events.
