St. Mark School received a $1,000 check from Safeway grocery stores on Sept. 15 to use for fitness activities and nutrition lessons, according to a release from the school.
Through Safeway's eScrip program, customers raise money for the school of their choice by using a Safeway Club Card when they shop, according to Safeway's website.
A school can earn up to $25,000 annually and use that money for a variety of fitness and nutrition activities, the website stated.
Mary Morrison, a spokeswoman for the Catholic school that serves students in kindergarten through eighth grade, said the donation will go into the school's physical education budget.
Some of the funds, will go toward replacing physical education equipment at the school, she said.
St. Mark School promotes fitness through extracurricular activities, in, for instance, its walking and line dancing clubs, according to a release from the school.
Lessons about nutrition are integrated into school parties and events, the release stated.
