Letter: Straightforward rules for drivers in roundabout

I am writing in response to the Dec. 28 letter regarding the traffic circle on Edmondson Avenue and Old Frederick Road ("Too much speed and too little courtesy at Old Frederick circle," Catonsville Times).

According to the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration website, "Approach roads to roundabouts are controlled by yield signs. Entering traffic must always yield to traffic already in the roundabout. Cautiously approach the yield line and wait for an acceptable gap in traffic."

After three years of living in Germany, I found that traffic circles are much more efficient than traffic lights.

More traffic can get through the intersection and money is saved on electricity by not using traffic lights.

Drivers just need to remember to yield to traffic already in the circle.

Also, the MVA handbook states that, "When preparing to exit, turn on your right turn signal and move to the outermost travel lane as you pass the exit prior to where you want to exit."

Signaling before leaving the circle is something a lot of drivers don't do and it would definitely help with the traffic flow.
