Tips on being informed consumer only an education in how to waste taxpayers' money

I wrote this open letter to Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Benjamin Cardin and U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings, pointing out what I consider to exemplify the sort of spending that has contributed significantly to the pending insolvency of our wonderful country. I asked them to do whatever possible to cease such profligate spending.

Several days ago, I received in the mail a slick, cosmetically impressive and expensively produced 80-page pamphlet entitled "Read Up! How to be an Informed Consumer."

This pamphlet was produced by the Federal Trade Commission for the purpose of "educating Hispanic consumers."

It is printed in both English and Spanish.

It was sent under cover of a letter addressed to me by a misspelled name at my address.

It was posted by first class mail with a weight of 9 ounces.

The letter stated that it was sent as I requested. I assure you that I made no such request.

If by some mischance, I caused such a request to be made online, the point remains that the publishing and distribution of such an expensive booklet is unconscionable in today's economic climate.

I suggest that you inform our misguided president that, before cuts be made in obligations to deserving recipients, such as the military, or that taxes be raised, mailing such publications be prohibited.
