A speed camera will monitor Interstate 695 motorists at the Frederick Road interchange starting Dec. 13, according to a release from the Maryland State Highway Administration.
The speed camera is designed to increase safety in the area as the SHA replaces the Frederick Road bridge spanning the beltway, the release stated.
For 21 days after the cameras are deployed, motorists exceeding the 55-miles-per-hour speed limit by 12 miles per hour or more will receive warnings, the release stated.
Citations will start being issued on Jan. 3.
The SHA stated in the release that large signs will be placed to alert drivers to the use of speed cameras.
A speed trailer placed in an area before the motorists reach the speed camera will display the speed limit and the driver's speed, the release stated.
Maryland currently has 10 work zones monitored by speed cameras, the release stated.
