There was a fall chill in the air and a sprinkle of rain asRavens fans readied for Sunday night's game against the New York Jets.
It was hours before the 8:20 p.m. kickoff at M&T Bank Stadium Oct. 2 and many were enjoying drinks and food available at the dozens of vending stations in theRavens Walk area.
One of the more popular vendors was Grilled Cheese and Co.
Those working the stand for the Catonsville company made sure everyone had their fill of their cheesy goodness, keeping the four griddles, each of which could fit six sandwiches, active.
And while the line of people moved quickly, it never seemed to shorten.
There was a constant procession of orders for the four sandwiches available: the original, the Crabby Melt, the Kickin' BBQ Chicken and the BCT (grilled cheese with bacon, cheddar and tomato).
The tent also sold beer, water and soda to wash down the sandwiches.
"When it's cold outside, people really crave a hot, wonderful Grilled Cheese and Co. grilled cheese," said Scott Pevenstein, one of four co-owners of Grilled Cheese and Co. "The fall season is time to have a grilled cheese."
Having their local company at the foot of a stadium where more than 70,000 fans would cheer on their hometown team was special for Pevenstein and the other owners.
"We're all Baltimore boys," Pevenstein said. "Whether it's the Orioles or the Ravens, we are just honored to be here and support this team and beat the Jets tonight."
The people who lined up for the sandwiches were glad to have them, too.
Baltimore residents Barbara Wielepski and her husband, Gene, ordered an original and a BCT and shared the sandwiches.
After taking her first bite of the BCT, Barbara looked up to the sky and talked about how good it was.
Asked if the hot sandwich in the cool weather made it appealing, Barbara said, "Oh yes."
The season ticket holders agreed they would likely stop by again.
Karen Brinegar, a Perry Hall resident, had waited weeks to get her grilled cheese sandwich, which she ate about an hour before kickoff.
"We were going to come the last time we were here, but the line was too long," Brinegar said. "It was good."
In addition to the its flagship location at 500 Edmondson Ave., there is also a location in Sykesville and plans for another restaurant on Light Street in Baltimore.
