Killer sentenced to life without parole for Catonsville convenience store murder

Braderick Green, the man convicted last month of shooting and killing 52-year-old Brian Meise in the Yours convenience store in downtown Catonsville in 2009, was sentenced Wednesday, Nov. 9 to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

The sentence was the maximum penalty available to Judge Patrick Cavanaugh, and the one requested by the prosecution, said John Magee, a prosecutor with the Baltimore County State's Attorney's Office.

Green, 37, also received a consecutive life sentence for shooting the store's owner, Arbutus resident Sudhir Shah, in the face during the Nov. 17 evening incident.

He was also given two consecutive 20-year sentences for using a handgun in each of the shootings.

No independent sentence was handed down for an associated robbery conviction, as the robbery contributed to the felony first-degree murder sentence Green received for killing Meise, Magee said.

A surveillance video from the store at the time of the shooting that was screened during Green's trial showed that neither Meise, who lived near the store, nor Shah, had posed a threat to Green, and that the shootings were "completely uncalled for, senseless, horrific crimes," Magee said.

"We certainly believe that he has earned every single day of the time," Magee said.

The sentences add to a long list of others that Green is already behind bars for, including 11 life sentences he received for shooting at police during a Nov. 21, 2009, incident in west Baltimore, near the Catonsville border.

Members of Meise's family, including his mother, Jane Bowen, and Shah and his son were all in the courtroom to witness the sentencing, Magee said.
