Students at Catonsville Education Center to see "Disney's The Lion King"

Students at the Catonsville Education Center are among those from four Baltimore County public schools who will get to see a performance of "Disney's The Lion King" for free at the Hippodrome Theater Dec. 8.

In addition to seeing the musical, fourth- and fifth-graders at the school on South Chapelgate Lane for children with special education needs will also participate in two related in-school workshops, thanks to Donna Wasserbach, a teacher at the center.

Wasserbach was one of four county public school teachers who won a poetry competition sponsored by the Hippodrome Foundation and with it 40 tickets to the performance.

The poetry was judged by Judy Rousuck, former theater critic for The Baltimore Sun.

The Hippodrome Foundation's program, "The Lion King: Lessons from the Pride Land," includes one character-education session on life lessons learned from "The Lion King" before students see the musical and a puppetry session at each school after seeing the performance.
