Students from Catonsville and Lansdowne high schools and Western School of Technology and Environmental Science were among the 161 from19 Baltimore County public schools whose scores at a regional competition qualified them for the statewide Future Business Leaders of America conference in Hunt Valley in April.
During the Feb 1 regional competition at Dundalk High School, 263 students participated in online events, such as accounting, business law, cyber security and global business; and 89 participated in performance events, including business ethics, public speaking, emerging business issues and client service.
In the online competition:
• Shyam Patel (Catonsville) was first in Computer Problem Solving
• Ryan Din (Western Tech) was first in Business Math
• Kaliyah Jordan (Western Tech) was first and Ramandeep Kaur (Catonsville) third in Health Care Administration
• Brandon Holtzner (Catonsville) was first and Samantha Fitzpatrick (Catonsville) was third in Cyber Security
• Alex Fasehun (Western Tech) was second in Introduction to Business
• Timothy Jacobs (Western Tech) was third in Business Law
• Adam Burgess (Lansdowne) was third in Future Business Leader
• The team of Candra Hart and Krishna Pani (Catonsville) was third in Global Business
In the performance events:
• Lauren Seward (Catonsville) was first in Client Service
• Maria Barkley (Western Tech) was first in Public Speaking II
• Beverly Atueyi and Debbie Fadoju (Western Tech) were first in Business Presentation
• Vashti Webb (Catonsville) was first in Impromptu Speaking
• Morgan Smith (Western Tech) was second in Public Speaking I
Judges represented the Port of Baltimore, First Financial Federal Credit Union and local businesses.
In addition to participating in events, students at the conference attended workshops on cyber security, a virtual business challenge, and college preparedness.
