Nov. 2 session to help parents of gifted middle school students plan for high school

Parents of gifted and talented students in seventh, eighth and ninth grades can receive advice and materials to help their students choose high school courses and activities during a special evening session Nov. 2 at Loch Raven High School, 1212 Cowpens Ave.

Counselors from Baltimore County Public Schools and representatives from the county's GT office and the Citizens Advisory Committee for Gifted and Talented Education will be available during the session, 6:45-9 p.m.

Session topics include:

• How students can achieve academic success while maintaining a balance in their lives.

• The difference between AP, GT and Honors classes and how to choose the right course.

Presentations by:

• Tim Hayden (acting coordinator, BCPS Office of School Counseling);

• Kristina Boxley (Catonsville High School counseling department chairwoman);

• Matt Ferenschak (Dumbarton Middle School counseling department chairman);

• Deborah Franklin (Sudbrook Magnet Middle School counseling department chairwoman); and

• Ken Dickson (BCPS Office of Gifted and Talented Education coordinator).

Material such as timelines, planning charts, and contact information will be provided to take home.

Parents and students are welcome.

The program is sponsored by Citizens' Advisory Committee for Gifted and Talented Education, a parent and community advocacy group supporting Gifted and Talented Education K-12 in Baltimore County Public Schools.
