Welcome return for 'Chipper' Gnau and his snowplow

Now that my hands have thawed enough and I can feel the keyboard under my fingers again — Happy New New Year, Carney!

When the icy blasts struck a couple of weeks ago, I was happy to seeCharles "Chipper" Gnau Jr., behind his snowplow, clearing off sidewalks in Perring Park.

While Chip'sfulltime career now is piloting private planes, he still comes back to his old neighborhood to clear ice and snow for his mom, Polly Gnau, and grateful neighbors.

Now let us backtrack to November happenings in our community;

Although Ihad known about the Wounded Warrior ProjectI didn't pay much attention until

Brittany Grubb, my 14-year-old neighbor and dog-walker, told mehow excited she was because her uncle, Capt. David Hagner of the U.S. Marine Corps, a member of the Wounded Warriors Project who had served in both Iraq and Afghanistan and suffers from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder),had been selected to go to Miami along with his wife Becky, also a member of the Wounded Warriors Project . They were given tickets and sideline passes to the game in which the Baltimore Ravens beat the Miami Dolphins 28-13.

Capt. Hagner bought tickets for the rest of his family, including his parents, his sister and brother in-law, his godaughter/niece and his 14-month old daughter He also bought field passes that were traded off during halftime so that everyone had a chance to go on the field.

I would like to say "thank you" to kind but unknown neighbor who has been picking up my the Sun from the curb and putting it on my front porch
