The Board of Liquor License Commissioners held a hearing on Monday regarding the liquor license at what was formerly Renee's Lounge and Restaurant in Halethorpe, but a clerical error by the board forced a postponment.
The current owners of Renee's Lounge went before the board at the County Office Building inTowson to make their case to have the liquor license transferred to them and to change it from a Class B to a Class D.
After testimony was given by the owners, Sukhdev Singh and Robert Arnold Jr., supporters and a dissenter, the board took about 10 minutes to deliberate.
When they emerged, the board said it had only advertised this as a transfer of the liquor license, not as a transfer and reclassification.
The board gave Singh and Arnold the choice to accept the transfer of the liquor license and reapply for the reclassification or to postpone the hearing.
Singh and Arnold, both of whom declined comment for this article, chose postponement.
A Class B license is for establishments that make at least 51 percent of its money from the sale of food, according to a spokeswoman from the Board of Liquor License Commissioners for Baltimore County.
A Class D license is for bars and taverns and states that minors must vacate the premesis by 9 p.m., the spokeswoman said.
Robert Maith, who currently owns the liquor license at Renee's Lounge and Restaurant, said the bar has not been open since December.
One of the boardmembers said that nearly 50 incidents requiring police attention took place at the establishment on 3911 Hollins Ferry Road between 2006 and 2009.
A woman who chose to be identified only as a spokeswoman for a neighboring business testified that the business she represented needed to hire extra security after patrons of the establishment would come over.
Singh testified that he would join the neighborhood's community association, install security cameras on the inside and outside of the building and the footage would be made available to the police.
