Please help students in need with your donations

Start of the school year offers a test for community support

As our community approaches the end of August, we are confronted with both a challenge and an opportunity.

The challenge is to provide supplies to those students in need in our community.

The opportunity is experiencing the joy of service to others in the process.

The faith community at English Consul Christian Church recently felt such joy after successfully collecting two full pallets of new and gently used school supplies, which were then donated to Southwest Emergency Services (SWES).

English Consul Christian Church, 2733 Daisy Ave., has been worshiping in the community since 1913 and holds worship services every Sunday at 11 a.m.

The church donates bread to the Maryland Food Bank and collects hats, mittens and scarves for children in need as fall approaches.

For more information about the church's worship and community activities, email office@engccc.org.

Southwest Emergency Services is a nonprofit agency that provides food, clothes, energy assistance and other vital services to economically challenged individuals and families in the local community.

For more information or to make financial or other donations, please call 410-247-8154.
