County sets aside $3.16 million for improvements to Leeds Avenue in Arbutus

Baltimore County has budgeted $3.16 million for improvements to infrastructure along Leeds Avenue, and construction could start next spring.

Councilman Tom Quirk, who represents the 1st District that includes Arbutus, said the work will improve the road, curbs, sidewalks, gutters and storm drains.

Most of the work will occur on a one-mile section between Linden and Beechfield avenues.

Quirk said nearly $2 million of the amount budgeted for the project will be used for the construction costs.

"It's going to be significant," said Quirk, who received confirmation of the funding on June 15. "It's something to do more to promote pedestrian safety and walkability."

The final design of the improvements should be completed by next month.

The bid process begins after that, Quirk said.

"I know the business community has been wanting to see this," Quirk said. "I know the people living along Leeds have wanted to see this."

Quirk said he began discussing this project with County Executive Kevin Kamenetz shortly after he won election in November.

"There's a lot of potential in Arbutus," Quirk said. "It's a great town and we can continue to make advances and help it continue on its positive upsides."

"It's a good win for Arbutus."
