A Baltimore County grant totaling $10,000 will allow the Lansdowne Business and Professional Association to start a project to beautify the area along Hammonds Ferry Road, said association president Charlie Kountz.
Kountz deposited the money into the association's account about three weeks ago and the association already has plans on how to use the money, he said.
After the association's work, Kountz said, poles with banners featuring the names of local business sponsors will line Hammonds Ferry Road from its intersection with Hollins Ferry Road and north.
"Hopefully, they'll go all the way up to Hazel Avenue," Kountz said, referring to the street about a half-mile north of the intersection of Hammonds Ferry and Hollins Ferry roads. "Some people have expressed a desire to go up that far. We'll try to accommodate that."
To sponsor a banner, businesses will pay $150 for the first year and $50 each year thereafter, according to a release from the association.
Additionally, damaged flower beds in the area will be repaired and large flower pots will be added.
Association spokesman Craig Rankin said about a half dozen pots, which he estimated to weigh several hundred pounds each, will likely be placed between Clyde and Third avenues along Hammonds Ferry Road on Friday.
"The Corner Florist has (agreed to) donate flowers to be planted in each of these pots to really make Hammonds Ferry Road attractive," Kountz said of the business at 2619 Hammonds Ferry Road.
The association, Kountz added, will work to keep the entrance to the community well-landscaped.
"The theory (is) that if you spruce up that area people will take more pride in their properties, kind of shame them into doing a little better job in taking care of their outside," Kountz said. "I think it's going to be very, very attractive."
