Featuring the individual bout of the year in just the season's first week of wrestling, visiting Bel Air knocked off Fallston, 43-26, Wednesday evening in a season-opening dual meet for both teams. In addition to Bel Air's big win, Aberdeen, Havre de Grace, Edgewood, John Carroll, North Harford and Patterson Mill were also winners.
In the big opening night match at 132 pounds, Bel Air's Jeff Taylor and Fallston's Zach Cullison went to double overtime before Taylor scored a pin over Cullison, the defending Class 1A-2A, 119-pound state champion.
Also winning for the Bobcats were Kenny Scoggins, Brady Staffort, Ryan Beveridge, Keith Reagan, Christian Svoboda and William Holder-Moore.
ABERDEEN beats Elkton
Aberdeen opened its season on the road Wednesday night, scoring a 60-15 dual meet win over host Elkton. The Eagles used eight pins and two forfeits to rack up the lopsided win.
HAVRE DE GRACE beats EDGEWOOD
Havre de Grace hosted Edgewood in a season opening dual meet for both and the Warriors edged the Rams, 43-42, after a lengthy tie-breaker process.
All seven Havre de Grace wins came by pin. Winners were Ryley Armstrong, 106; Josh Nuce, 126; Ryan Wilson, 132; Daniel Peters, 138; Tommy Butler, 145; Justin Wolbert, 195; and Tim Peters, 220.
NORTH HARFORD beats JOPPATOWNE
North Harford won nine of 13 bouts (with a double forfeit at 285) to beat visiting Joppatowne, 54-22, Wednesday night in season opening dual meet action.
PATTERSON MILL beats Bo Manor
Patterson Mill beat visiting Bo Manor in a Wednesday night dual meet, 48-22.
The meet started at 160, but it was at 170 when Patterson Mill got its first win. Devakar Sinha won a 9-0 major decision and Tyler Mackechnie earned a forfeit at 182. At 195, Garrison Wissell also won a forfeit.
In a wrestled match, Corey Myers won by first period pin at 220 and at 285, Mark Reuter won a 4-3 decision. Will Urban won by forfeit at 113 and Jake Nikkila won by pin in 41 seconds at 126. Also for Patterson Mill, Thomas Trzeciak won by pin at 145 and Nick Roney won a 16-1 technical fall at 152.
Perryville beats C. MILTON WRIGHT
Perryville won eight of the 14 weight classes Wednesday evening against visiting C. Milton Wright and beat the Mustangs, 40-25.
Mike Ritz gave CMW a quick lead with a 6-3 decision at 106, but Perryville ran off wins in the next three weight classes to take a lead. Taylor DiMauro won a forfeit at 113, while Chris Brown and Joe Antoshak won decisions at 120 and 126 respectively.
Spencer Hellman snapped the Panthers run with a 4-2 win at 132, but Perryville reeled off three straight wins again at 138, 145 and 152. Two by pin and one major decision.
CMW also got a win at 160 with Adam Van Scyoc earning a 15-13 decision over Seth Sharpe.
The Mustangs also got a major decision win from Doug Their at 182 and pins from Ty Rochester at 220 and Cody Smith at 285 to close out the match.
JOHN CARROLL beats Boys' Latin
John Carroll opened its wrestling season Tuesday night with a easy win over Boys' Latin, 55-19, despite having three starters away on a school trip.
Freshman Steven Jernigan got the Patriots off to a good start by forfeit at 126 pounds. Freshmen Philip Venanzi and Christian Scott followed with pins at 132 and 138, respectively.
Senior T.J. Centi came back from a slight injury to squeak out a 12-10 victory at 145 and freshman Chris Almony wasted no time at 152, hammering out a fall in 13 seconds.
The Lakers managed a win at 160, but the Patriots got back on track as freshman Hunter Ritter recorded a 17-5 major decision at 170.
At 182, junior Jay Etkins battled back from a four-point deficit to earn a second period fall, while fellow junior Dan Kleble recorded a first period fall at 195.
Boys' Latin came from behind to pin at 220 and took a forfeit at 285. At 106, freshman Zach Dwyer accepted a forfeit. Devin Davis turned in a dominating major decision, 19-5, at 113 and the match ended with a major decision for Boys Latin at 120.
